No Wonder

If you've ever wondered why we're not a nation of millionaires, here's a clue:

According to a new Quinnipiac poll, voters by a 46% to 41% margin would rather Bush run their business than Kerry. Set aside the fact that he's screwed up our foreign policy -- that has little to do with running a business. He's got a bad business record. His only business success is getting the city of Dallas to raise taxes and pay for a new stadium for the Texas Rangers.

Everything else he's touched has eventually gone bust. And yet 46% of us think he should have checkwriting authority. Go figure.

I think it's been accurately demonstrated that most people in this country do not vote in their economic interest. Personally, I think that if you make less than $200,000 a year, you really have no business voting for Bush. But hey, he has daily prayers in the White House and that's all that matters to some people.

Well you also have to realize that the Dems and religious progressives both have done a crappy job of presenting an alternative. There is no "growth" strategy for Progressives or Democrats leaving only the Republicans to latch onto messages that get people voting against their own self-interests. It's time someone, anyone, and Democrat, started the ball rolling to get people TO vote for their self-interest, and the interests of their own communities and families, not just their churches.

Kerry's cookie company, on the other hand, was quite the success!

Minor quibble: it was the city of Arlington, Texas, not Dallas, that has had to suck up the $190 million. (Dallas, Fort Worth, and all the suburbs derive the benefit, but it's Arlington that pays.) Bush got the people of the city to form a shadow sports authority with condemnation powers, and screwed the Curtis Mathes family out of the land that AmeriQuest Field now sits on. (Ironically, the former Ballpark in Arlington is now sponsored by a debt-reduction company.) Details in "Shrub" by Molly Ivins and Lou DuBose.
