Flagger dishonesty?
From the AJC recap of the Mississippi Governor's Race:
- "Earlier, Barbour had revisited another issue that divided the races -- the Confederate flag. Recent ads reminded voters that Musgrove had supported an unsuccessful 2001 referendum that sought to remove the Rebel X."
Anyone who honestly believes that a referendum on the Georgia flag would have passed or that flaggers would have been less vociferous in their desire to oust Barnes had he supported one should take a good look at the Mississippi race. There are certain elements in Southern society who don't take kindly to change at all. Mississippi's Republican party didn't seem to have much of a problem exploiting them, Georgia's fortunately probably won't be able to now that they have a figurehead in Perdue just as tarnished by the flag issue as Barnes was.
